Hey I got a question about this, I hope no one minds me jumping in, I have a VERY similar situation.
1978 Z28 , 2004 LS1 implant. Speartech modded ECM and Harness.
Yes, before anyone asks, this engine was running fine since 2006 in this car.

I'm stuck now where my engine will NOT fire up.
Cars been sitting for the most part since 2008 and driven maybe once or twice a year.
I just rewired the car with an AAW Hwy 22 kit. Everything is getting power.
I will go verify spark though today.......that's the only thing I haven't done yet.

My engine cranks, but doesn't fire.....I get a few chugs.....but not enough to kick over completely.
This is what I've done so far.
1. Verified 60lbs fuel pressure verified at the rails.
2. Noided the injectors on my passenger side bank - all light up good. Didn't bother with drivers side.
3. Pulled each spark plug and wire brushed the carbon off all of them.
4. I see my RPM gauge going wacky when I crank.....sometimes not moving at all.
5. Verified all fuses are good and getting power
6. Verified brake is breaking the TCC circuit when depressed

So it could be my Crank Position Sensor or Cam Position Sensor??
The car has had sporadic starting issues over the past few times I've fired it up.
Took about 4-5 tries before it fired up. Now.....it won't kick over at all. :growl::growl:

BTW - I can't remember my old login so I had to create a new registration.

^^^The way I understand it from the service manual, you need a operating crank position sensor for spark. Cam sensor is used to determine if the cylinder is on the firing or exhaust stroke. But the crank sensor can also do this by itself, it just takes longer.
bottom line - no crank sensor, no start.

Now if I get spark......

It's obviously not a crank position sensor.
But if I don't, that's most likely what it is.....right ??

Is it also possible I have a faulty coil pack ??
I know these are distributorless engines, just wasn't sure if my "coil wire"
from the new harness was really supposed to go anywhere, or if the ECM
pretty much got the signal from the CKP and controlled the coil packs.

I just found a video on how to check the CKP sensor for proper OHM readings.
Anyone know what the LS1 CKP ohm reading should be ??
