I'm getting ready to order a cold air intake for my 99 WS6 M6...do I go with K&N or SLP? I've heard the SLP kit doesn't fit well, but I thought I'd ask here. I went through the archives, but didn't find anything on cold air intakes.

u def want the slp unit. proven 10hp at the wheels with the better filter it comes with. u will want the lid, and blackwing filter. after that if u want u can cut out the baffles in the hood and get a true ram air effect. It def helped on my car. just if you remove the baffles make sure you arent driving over 50-60 mph on the highway when it is raining hard outside.
In my experience, SLP items in general do not fit well. My SLP Blackwing air lid, SLP LMII, and SLP smooth bellows being prime examples....
I also would not suggest a K&N air filter. Do searches about K&N on here.....not good for the motor...or your MAF. That's my .02...take it for what it's worth.
Go with the SLP Lid. it fits fine if you know what your doing. fitment issues are with getting the smooth bellows and/or not seating the lid on right.
and x10 for NOT using a K&N filter. get a dry flowing (paper) filter instead. much better for the engine/MAF. all I do is pull mine out and blow it off and im good to go too. :look:
Yep. Amsoil or something similar on the filter element. Don't use an oiled filter.
i dont agree with above. ive used k&n filters on all my cars and never a problem. as long as you dont over-oil it after cleaning and they only need to be cleaned once every couple years or so. also, the blackwing filter comes with barely any oil on it so its not gonna harm anything and ur gonna pick up more power
i had no problems getting the slp cai in the car. this was the first thing that i did to it and i went at it not know anything about the car, or even really having proper tools or a jack. u should have no trouble to get it in.
go with the cold air kit from slp i had no problems with fittment what so ever and you do see some gains and also listen to these guys K&N oiled Filters one let in to much dirt which can harm an engine and the oil coats the MAF sensors which can throw off the readings, i just use a fram airhog but any paper filter will do
never had a problem with my SLP CAI, install was easy and everything fit fine....
Thanks for your input guys. I appreciate it and it makes my decision easier. Now to go with a Borla or Magnaflow cat-back...
:hmm:
Magnaflow...and take the extra cash and put it toward another mod.
