Cleaning the Air Filter

What is the best way to clean a washable filter? Looks like this

buy a recharge kit and follow intructions....


and NO compressed air. ever. period.

Would you find the kit in like Kragen, or an auto parts store, or is it like mail order?

if it's K&N or something similar, places like O'Rielly's carries the recharge kits.

or autozone

I bought two k&n filters just to swap out while the other completely dries.

that's a good idea....little pricey but a good idea. Since mine isn't a daily I clean it on a day when I know I'm not going to be driving it and just let it air dry...usually overnight.

umm why not just buy a dry element filter? and keep your engine cleaner :eek2:

To clean your filter:

Remove it from vehicle. Walk to nearest trash receptacle and deposit filter element into garbage. Go order one of these: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx Install on car. You now have a free flowing filter that will not allow dirt into your engine like an oiled cotton gauze filter will.

amen, the K&N cool air intake that was in my jeep got removed and thrown away. replaced it with the factory set up. When I had the K&N it made such a mess of my throttle body and IAC,i wascleaning it more than the damn filter.
After removing it less and less problems occured.


Just out of curiousity have you ever wondered why on the back of the box it says " the dirtier it gets the better it works" well thats because the dirt is "clogging" the perferations making it work like a normal filter. with the larger perferations it allows the oil,and smaller dirt to get in gumming everything up. The only reasons it isn't noticed in higher HP engines is more of that crap is getting sucked in the combustion chamber and burning off. In the exception of the tiny dirt particles which is rubbing against your cyl walls.

And don't forget, too much filter oil equals a dead MAF...

use the blue amsoil filter

When thinking about switching to the Amsoil Dry Cleanable air filter, consider crossing the K&N filter element to an Amsoil conical induction style filter. For example, you can keep the K&N cold air kit, but replace the filter itself. It might make for a more cost effective switch.
