Catback install with pics and vid

Christmas came early this year when over the Labor Day weekend I received an e-mail from KY Speed about their sale. I have been waffling between the Magnaflow single and dual tip systems for quite a while now. I therefore decided to take the easy way out and let the wife choose a system. The swap went pretty smooth and I am quite happy with the results. Thank you Zapper2003 for helping to install the system.

First three pics are the stock system -- yes, the 10 bolt weeps:

Here is the removal of the stock system. You have to cut the pipe in front of the rear axle to facilitate removal. I made sure to make the cut on a straight section of pipe just in case I never need to re-install it:

The install was real simple - just took a while to get everything lined up and looking good. The only modification I made was shortening the rear hanger where it is welded on the passenger side outlet. This allowed the tip to slide on further. I also slid the mid-pipe back around 1/4" from the Y pipe in order to gain additional clearance over the panhard brace:

Best upgrade so far! The system sounds good and the tips really set off the back of the car. I can not believe how fast the order arrived. Thanks again!

Now, about some Kooks LT's and a catted Y. From my reading on this site guys are talking about going to poly motor mounts and/or the Y pipe banging on the bottom of the car. I suffered through a banging exhaust with our Vette for awhile and it is not much fun. What's the real scoop?

Great post!! I just went through the exact process as you did. However the first time I had the catback pipe that connects to the Y all the way in. I took it for a couple of small trips and could hear it hitting. So the past weekend I loosened the clamps and pulled it back about 1/4" like you did and had enough clearance over that bar. I still need to fine tune my tips. The passenger side seems to be the biggest hassle. Trying to get it close to center in the rear bumper...

Sounds good...I love the tips also...

It was a bit of a challenge to get everything lined up. After the initial install, I went back and shifted the muffler more to the passenger side and started over. Were your tips labeled "left" and "right" ? Mine were not (at least that I could find) and I also swapped them back and forth to see which way they fit best as there was a slight difference in angle.

I think your rear end is leaking? I hear all the 10-Bolts leak to an extent, but damn your ass is leaking!

I did not see any labels on my tips..I got lucky when I put them on and got them right the first time...

Mine was leaking too. When I first got it, I had to change the front seal on it..

:yup: 4" -- I also saw somewhere they were listed as being 3.5". They fit the cutout very well and really set off the back of the car versus the stock tips.

I think the correct term is a "weep" as I do not have any drips on the floor. I have not yet detailed the back undercarriage of the car, other than the brake calipers and rotors. So what you are seeing is 7 years of "weep".
