I'm looking into trucks now, 4x4 is a must. I'm thinking F-250 or 350. I was wondering how dualy 4x4's do in the mud though?
I have a huge gooseneck trailer in mind that I will be pulling to different quad races. The parking lots are usually pretty make shift to. I have 0 bills right now, no car payments, so I figure wtf, quit borrowing my parents truck and get my own.

Duallys have LESS traction in mud and snow than single rear wheel trucks do. But a dually tows better. Reason being you have 4 tires bearing half as much weight as 2 tires do (Less ground pressure). Thats my experience, though. Plus, a dually wears out 6 tires at a time vs. 4. Think about your needs for towing though, if you're only gonna be towing 10 weekends a year, a dually probably isn't gonna be worth the extra expense.
How in the hell do oyu have zero bills? No cell phone? No car insurance? Rent? health insurance? School? Car? I vote a old beat up straight 6 Ford with a bad ass shiney chrome hitch on it. I travel 6hrs - 13 hrs one way to a race. I would use it for other stuff though. I have cheap cheap cell phone plan, school I paid for straight up, car paid for straight up, insurance is paid for six months now. No Rent. I went a clothes shopping binge a while a go and still ahve ae shirts with tags attatched. My mom cooks for me, and for some reason my dad still insists on paying when we go out to eat. Health insurance is covered by work. I got the cheap plan, 14.50 a week wich is pretty good coverage, plus a HSA I put 15.50 in a week, and it is over 4 grand right now. I can use that for whatever I want whenever I want as no one over sees it.
I will use truck for daily driving hear and there + winter use. The trailer is a 36 foot goose neck toy hauler.

I love my F150 when I hit the mud. Are you going to be towing alot? I'd look into a F150 or GMC/Chevy 1500 if not.
ok we have had both a F250 7.3 powerstroke and a F350 7.3 powerstroke dualy, the F-250 would get around alot better, unless you took the duals off and ran the outside tires reversed so they track straight, but unless you are full out mudding with the dam thing, a diesel will be fine, ours got around our shitty calving lots when the toyota was broke down, not the easiest but it did get the job done, that being said if it is going to be a trailer queen, go with a dualy, we pull alot of trailers, and IMO the dually not only has more payload but rides nicer while pulling the trailer....
the smog shit is negatively affecting all new diesels. great idea though, a little less emissions and burn twice the fuel.Quote:

For the distances that your going to be traveling, i'd look more into a 5.9l cummins. it'll pull what your wanting with ease, and still get great gas mileage.
Dodge's are the most cheaply made pickups hands down, Ford makes a good diesel pickup (minus the 6.0L F'ups), the 7.3's are workhorses that seem to never break down, and the newest models (6.4L international engine with Twin turbos) is a beast, you pick up 200 ft/lbs of torqe off a good tune.... But yet for your situation i would suggest a dually
Again, with the new Diesel trucks, dodge, ford and chevy all are having issues with their smog systems, and being most places do the emissions tests, that could be a major setback for you. Here in NE. PA, we don't have them. Friend of ours with a 6.7 did the H&S DPF Delete with a new downpipe (stock tailipipe), EGR Delete and an Edge with attitude on his 6.7. Now the clutch slips somethin' fierce on any setting above stock, but doesn't get any check engine lights.
