Plugs and wires - HELP

I recently replaced my stock wires and plugs with MSD 8.5 mm superconductors and TR55's gapped to 0.060.

My car is a 99 WS6 with ~ 131K miles and basic bolt-on's installed.

The car is rarely driven and it ran ok before the plug/wire change.

It took me a couple of evenings to change all of the plugs and wires and the whole time the car sat with the battery unhooked. I did unbolt and shift the passenger side coil rail up to allow more access to #8.

Finished the job, hooked up the battery, started the car up and it began idling rough and hesistating like a miss. Checked all of the plug wire connections and all felt tight.

Test drove it for a few blocks and the problem didn't clear up so I put her back in the garage

Took the car into a mechanic friend of mine the next day who installed an ORY and new covette O2 sensors. He checked all of the plug wires to make sure each end was seated properly and didn't find a problem.

He hooked up a scanner and did not find a misfire.

Picked the car up and it still stumbles when I get on it. Unbelievably loud with ORY and LM1 catback!

My SES light has been on for months since I completed the EGR and AIR delete.

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the codes and post them up. Did you check the gap on all the plugs befor you put them in?
I would honestly pull all the plugs and take a look at the tips and make sure there good to go. I would also ensure all the wires are good and tight and snapped on, i know when i instail msd wires on some cars i trim a bit of the boot to get it all the way on.

When the battery is unhooked that long, the car has to relearn all of its tolerances. I did that to mine in order to reset the entire computer system in the car. When I started it, it ran like crap and didnt even hold idle. The car needs to relearn all the ratios and what not. I believe that may be your problem. Try driving it around for a bit for the computer to relearn everything and that may solve the problem.

i unhooked my battery for close to 2 months while put away for the worst of the weather here, hooked it back up, turned the key and it ran perfect. did you notice he's had the ses light on since deleting the EGR and AIR? i smell a problem there.

Oo ok sounds liek that was overlooked by me, i apologize.

It ran ok before plugs and wires so it's most likely a wire not connected or a broken plug.

I had the codes pulled up and saw the following:

PO405B
PO410B
PO412B
PO418B

All codes appeared to be related to the EGR and AIR delete from months ago.

The scan tool did record multiple random misfires on cylinder #2.

I am pulling #2 plug to take a look.

Is it possible for a new plug to go bad right away?

#2 plug had a smear of oil, grease ??? on the insulator near the electrode.

Cleaned it off and the miss was gone or so I thought.

Between 4000-5000 rpm the car hesistates, stumbles...sounds like its missing.

If I roll off the throttle slightly the hesitation goes away and the car will continue to accelerate.

Changed the fuel filter today and no improvement.

Any advice?

Have you ran any octane booster or cleaner through it?

I ran Seafoam through one of our cars after a brand new set of plugs, once the seafoam went through had to buy all new plugs because i kept getting random misfires

What plugs are you running by the way?

i gaped mine to 40 not 60 try that

My 2000 GM tech manual says gap plugs to .060. I did plugs and wires a couple days ago and gapped to .055 and have no issues.

just bought new ac irridiums. spec is to gap at .40 regardless of the owners manual spec. that is ac plugs, dont know what others are calling for.

If the gap is too small it can cause just as many, or more, problems than having it too wide.

Factory spec is .060, thats what you should set it at. That wide of a gap is fine for an engine with a coil-over-plug setup like ours have. We have 40,000 volts per coil going to each plug, thats more than enough to bridge a .060 gap.

Replaced #2, #4 and #6 plugs.

The miss is completely gone.

So what was the problem with those plugs? Cracked insulator or something?

It looks like some antiseize got on a couple of the plugs during the initial swap out.

Look at that...I got one right!
