Help me make it to 450 rwhp!!

So I am calling on all of the experts, or at least people with H/C combo's that are producing said numbers above or more. Mods are in sig and car is currently ripped apart for winter, heads and such off. I was thinking the parts below:

LS6 Stage 2 heads, with titanium retainers, and sodium filled valves
Hardened Pushrods
Lunati Roller lifters
New timing chain and gears
Comp Bee hive springs
Tune

But what for cam, was thinking of a custom grind, since I want some street manners but car is not DD. What do you all think? Electric water pump and Street Warrior with new TB will be coming later on but would like to make 450 rwhp without those two items. Let the suggestions fly my friends.

Why the focus on the peak number?

I had my fingers crossed that you would chime in Mr. Luos. What would you do in my shoes with the information given. I am doing suspension/clutch/rear/tires this summer and while power is not the hole issue, I am shooting for 11.5's or deeper in the 1/4, and figure with traction, 450 rwhp would get me there.

It depends on how aggressive you want to go.

The right heads, an average cam, the right gears, and a good tune will get 11.5 no problem with traction.

I would look into bumping the compression, running a good ported head, and a 228R (or maybe a touch bigger) cam.

Lopey idle but not super aggresive, want semi decent mpg (Don't drive it to get mpg but want to at least pass a gas station if you catch my drift)
Max power lower in the band, around 6,000 - 6,200 rpms. Should I change my head choice and stray from the LS6 style head. I figured, the natural bump you get with the LS6 plus milling it and p&p would put me around 10.9:1 or so. Flood me with your knowledge, I am all ears. I hope I am giving enough information about my needs.

How aggressive of a tire and gear are you going to run?

ok, looks like I am looking for about the same thing out of 04 a4 gto with dr's and possibly ditching the irs for a solid 9" ford rear, maybe 3.90,s?

I was thinking ET Streets with a 9" or 12 bolt. If I could get away with Nitto's or a different DR that would be cool. Totally lost on the gears, up in the air. I kinda want to gear it from 3.42 to a 3.08 or 2.73. Everyone goes 4.11's with the M6 but I figure with 3.08's or so, I may be able to get through the 1/4 in 3rd gear, let alone to 60mph in first or so. I know I will lose torque with those gears but like I said, I am not set on one type yet, might go 4.11, which ever gets me to my final destination in the 1/4.

ok i have a stock ls1 with slp ram air set up 3200 stall, shift kit, 373 in stock rear, no cats, m/t drag radials, hypertech tuner, and 125 shot of nitrous and run 11.4 no problem mind you no engine work and only really around 425 horsepower.
so my opinion with the mods you are looking to do engine wise and my opinion is go with a 373 rear end you shouldnt have that much problems getting 11.5 at the track. but if you are worried about times quit worrying about overall horse. put a stall in that woke my car up.

Those gears you are talking about are going to seriously hurt your chances at 11.50's.
You want a gear set that allows you to get through the traps in 4th gear near redline.

A little difficult to stall an M6 car. :)

im over 450rwhp with a little 224 cam, Stage II ls6 heads, fast 90/90, ewp, u/d pulley, td's, and supporting mods...car is M6, stock 10-bolt, stock gears...




OP, what are your current numbers...?

First things first, what gear selection would enable me to run through 4th at near redline 3.73 or 4.11. And right now the car doesn't have a tune, never had one, never dynoed. Only place I trust is a couple hours away LS1speed in chicago, dyno tuners around here don't impress me. I was up in the air on intakes Fast or Warrior, I have heard the warrior will suffocate the motor about 6,500 rpm and above, but have never seen proof. I like Fast, just don't like the money part for just a intake. Not that it matters but more background, the shocks I am going with is Koni's with a lowering spring, I know old V-6 springs on the back are the route to go, but am not going for just a drag machine.

Skip the V6 springs.
Stockers would probably be best with QA1 shocks. For a drag car anyways.

Tire size, rev limiter RPM, expected trap speed, gear, etc...


In theory, to maximize the power, you want the correct gear with a taller tire. Probably 4.56 for a H/C car.

Still only turns 2200RPM at 75MPH with a 26" tire in 6th.

I have 4.11's in my car...and have been leaning towards maybe a 4.30 or maybe even a 4.56.

3.42's are 1650RPM at 75
3.73's are 1800RPM at 75
3.90's are 1900RPM at 75
4.11's are 2000RPM at 75
4.30's are 2100RPM at 75
4.56's are 2200RPM at 75
Those figures are on a 26" tire and with the M6.



Ideally, a 27" tire (my Hoosiers) and 4.56's would be perfect for me at altitude. If I were to run at sea level with that set-up and gear...I would run outta gear.

Looks like 4.11's might be the way to go for me. I like those numbers for rpms. Now just need to find my H/C combo and its all down hill from there.

i just learned something too. i thought it would be turning alot faster at road speeds. does any know about the A4 rpms at high speed with different gears?
