Best not to play with a MAF, however, I doubt that removing the screen would cause the issue you are experiencing.     Replaced both lower ball joints as well. Upper joints seemed fine and are easy to do, whereas the lowers are a bit more work. Unfortunately, they don't leave any lip on the control arm around the lower ball joints so I ended up using a BFH, rather than my press, to remove them. The stock joints...
