Online vs local tire shop pricing

I priced a set of 4 17" tires for my 2004 z71 through tirerack and through a local tire shop and it was $50 cheaper from the local store. Just figured Id give those that had previously been getting better deals online for tires a heads up. This is the first time that Ive gotten a better deal through a local store. The price difference is almost like getting them mounted and balanced for free.

Now does the cheaper price factor in if the local store has to order the tires also? I'm looking for some new tires for my 2002 Trans Am - Firehawk, and since the Firestone Firehawk P275/40ZR17 tire is no longer made, I am looking for a comparable tire that will last for many miles to come and be an affordable price.

Any suggestions? One person told me to look at the Fuzion ZRi, but I didn't find them in the right size. I'm in So. CA, so I don't experience much snow.... okay, none at all, but we do have rain from time to time. They are going to be used for everyday driving, not racing. Whatever suggestions you all may have would be appreciated.

Check out the new Firestone Wide Oval. It's the most direct replacement for the SZ-50.

The only thing about online tire sales is you can look the local guy in the eye if there is trouble. Just a hint.

    Cool

Well, I ended up buying the Bridestones online, had them delivered to my local tire store, they "installed" them, and I saved $15, compared to having the tire store purchase the tires, install, etc....

    Thanks for the input!
