NOOB, switching to the darkside
Well i'm a long time Ford guy, currently owning a boosted 98 Cobra and my wife owns a mild built 94 gt.I've always loved the 99-02 ws6 but just recently have considered purchasing one, so i'm here to learn the tricks of the trade and meet some cool people,
The car i'm looking to buy is a SOM ws6 so i'll be keeping my eyes open

Some of my first basic questions are,
what kind of power can you get out of these motors stock?
what kind of boost can they handle
what are the best initial upgrades, without pulling the motor apart
i'm sure i have more questions!

Pewter metallic- 2000 Camaro SS

Generally, you get 290 RWHP to 310 RWHP stock from an LS1. I have personally seen as high as 350 RWHP from a stock '02 LS1.
what kind of boost can they handle
Stock bottom end is usually good for 7-8 #s of boost.
what are the best initial upgrades, without pulling the motor apart
The weak areas of the fbods are definately the stock 10 bolt. Subframe connectors is pretty much a necessity for them as well. Lid, full exhaust(long tubes, off-road y-pipe if possible and an aftermarket catback), and an LS6 intake for the 98-00 models will generally get you around the 340-350RWHP range. A clutch for manuals or 3500 stall convertor for the automatics and you have an LS1 capable of mid 12s.
i'm sure i have more questions!
Welcome to the site as well. Good atmosphere here with a lot of helpful people
