Black- 99 Cougar
new here
hey guys,
name is nathan, i am in a search for a 01-02 trans am ls1 6speed, i currently drive a 99 v6 cougar
i am not new to cars, or car forums, i have done a few engine swaps on fwd cars but have never touched a rwd! i hope that changes soon
anyway one thing i really want in a t/a is a t top, my question is i know pretty much all the trans ams have black roofs or glass but do all of them have removable t tops if not what do i look for if im looking online at cars?
i think thats the only question i have the rest ihave already answered by searching on the site
thanks!

Hey bud,
There are some hard tops out there. I believe they're more common on the Firebird Formulas than on the Trans Ams, and there are a few hard top Camaros as well. I'm not sure about the numbers produced, but I do know they're out there...
Good luck. You're gonna love the rwd over the fwd in a sports car.

Welcome to LS1.com. You'll find that the majority of Fbodies out there are all Ttop cars. Best of luck to you in your search!

thanks guys, i saw a trans am for sale on craigslist and just fell in love with it!, i drive a 99 cougar like stated above, its an awesome car and surprisingly fast but i think i want a real head turner! im not so much worried about gas mileage since most of my driving is highway (i live in small town iowa) my car is also an auto and i was planing to put a 5speed in it along with upgrading the engine to one that would crank out about 250hp.... but by time i would be done i would have about as much in it as it would cost me to just buy a car like a trans am!
it will be a few months before i can get me a trans am as i gotta sell my project car (01 zn cougar that i put a tranny into) then my DD but i sure cant wait!

thanks again guys, when i posted here i fully expected people to rip me apart for my car, not only because it has half the power of the ls1 engine but because it is a ford! maybe i have spoken to early but you guys have surprised me, from what i have read on this site it seems you guys respect peoples cars regardless of what they are, thats really neat!

Yeah some of us realize we weren't all born with LS1s in the garage waiting for us
And frankly, I've always liked the looks of the Cougar, though I've never driven one. But since I bought my first TA in '99 I've been hooked on American pony cars and the LS1 in particular. Be careful, the same could happen to you...

lol, compared to a mustang or t/a the cougars arnt fast at all (but what do you expect out of a 170hp 2.5l v6!) but one thing i know is that they really shine in the corners, thats one thing i think im gonna miss is how well the handle! i was at a autocross meet with some people that have cougars and the cougars were beating v8 mustangs right and left because the mustangs cant keep up in the corners, it wount be the last cougar i own, i do engine swaps on them then turn around and sell them to make a profit, i may end up doing the same with rwd cars

The Cobra corners better due to the IRS. Not sure how it would compare to the Cougar, but definitely fare better than the solid axle GTs. Just an FYI, nothing to do with LS1s of course...
That TA handles well imo. But it's what I've driven for 11 years now so I don't have much to compare it to now...

Cars equipped with traction control have a switch beneath the HVAC controls to turn the system off. It defaults to "ON" when you start the car, however, you can purchase a small electronic module for around $50 that reverses the default setting to "OFF" on start up.
