New guy
New guy from Maryland here. My name is Bill and I'm 32. I currently own a Brand X daily driver, but I'm trying to get rid of it for a decent LS-1 car. I also have a 55 Chevy hotrod I blow all the money my wife will allow on. I had a 05 GTO, but like a moron I got rid of it. So, I'm somewhat familiar with the LS engines, but not the F-Body cars so much. I'll be poking around trying to learn as much as I can before picking something up. I'll try not to make too much of an ass out of myself.
Cheers!!Last edited by Mr. Sinister; 06-08-2010 at 11:42 AM.

You've made the right decision, because studies show that 4 out of 5 dentists prefer LS1 to Brand X...

lol.
right now i have my eye on a 01 Z with 66k on the clock for $8400 and a 99 formula with the same mileage for $8000. both are a4 cars though and i really want a 6 speed. i like the Z because it's newer and has the better intake and etc, but the formula looks better IMHO.

yep.
and inherent issues with the a4? i've heard the 6 speed cars have troubles with the clutch slave/master cylinders and are more prone to breaking rears. i do love banging gears, though. there are some 6 speed cars in my area, but just out of my price range.

I don't know from personal experience, but the main issue on a4s I've seen discussed on this site is heat management. Most people strongly recommend getting a tranny cooler, and that it will definitely help with longevity of the tranny. I'm looking to do just that in the next couple of weeks...
I haven't had any issues related to comfort or anything like that. But I've also read a bit about adjusting the shifting via tuning or a shift kit, as this will also help with longevity. Apparently it's setup for comfort first, and that leads to gear overlapping which increases heat and wear...Last edited by Schmalgar; 06-08-2010 at 12:29 PM.

since it would be my daily, i might be better off with an a4 anyway. traffic sucks. that Z looks like a pretty good deal. looks clean in the pics and so long as it's not beat to hell and the numbers work, i might go for it.
