Just curious where did you work before? I have a few friends from IPFW that work at DePuy and Biomet

I remember that car from eBay a few weeks ago. Nice save and props on giving that goat a good home.

Well this may not turn out to be a fairy tail.... My check engine light just came on and I can smell a hot/ burning smell but see nothing leaking or smoke anywhere also there is a knock now that sounds to be coming from the rack or something in the steering

Check your power steering line behind the reservoir. It could be leaking fluid onto the alternator. Also check the rack underneath to see if the lines are loose.

Also, check the spark plug wires as you have headers and a wire could be arcing off a tube. Check where the rack bolts to the undercarriage as the rack needs to be un-bolted to allow the driver side header to slide in from underneath.

I will check it out tonight after work thanks for the starting point! On a side note it didn't pop or make any noise this morning on the way to work that's a 8 to 10 mile drive so it had time to warm up don't know why it acted fine this morning. I think I am going to take it to one of the dealers I trust back home and have them scan it and give it a once over cuz I don't trust the dealer that sold it they just wanted there money any nothing else

If you take it to Pepboys or Autozone they will scan it for free. Get the code and report back here with it and we'll point you in the right direction

I have been to autozone once on Monday when I had a code and it was an o2 sensor error he didn't tell me the code just said that's what it was I had the cutouts open and the time and closed them and the light has been off until last night it came back on I would think its something different this time because there was no sound or pop with the first light I will take it back after work and post my findings. Thanks again!

You might have to have the car tuned if it isn't already. Might be a cat converter efficiency code on the secondary O2 side.
