    2001 GMC Sierra

Hello Everyone. My name is Brian and I drive a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup with the 4.8 LS1. I am running 6 psi boost through Powerdyne Supercharger, Flowmaster Supertruck exhaust, 160 therm, and Diablosport tuner. I came across this forum searching for an answer to a running problem. I have or had an engine tick. Go figure, right? But mine seemed different than the usual piston slap in that it would kind of come and go at idle no matter what temp but as soon as I give any throttle it would go away. Some times it would get pretty bad where it would get lopey and sound like a diesel truck. I remember a girl on a date mentioning how my truck sounded like a diesel knocking away. I am a mechanic and this drove me crazy. I took it to the dealer back while I still had warranty and they told me it's an LS1 and I should just get used to it. That "you can't hear it that much in the cab". It pissed me off, but they were not willing to do anything about it. I found a thread that spoke of a similar problem and reffered to a service bulliten about an o-ring for the oil pump pick up tube. I contacted my dealer and they said they could change it for around $300. I decided to get the o-ring and do it myself. It was a major pain but fixed my problem. I notice on most problem threads people complain about a problem, get three or four possible solutions from others and never post again. I can only wonder, did one of the solutions work? If so which one. That is why I am here. To post the solution to my problem on the engine tick threads.

    Welcome to the site Brian.

The 4.8 is an LR4 not an LS1 (RPO code). It is still derived from the LS engine family however.
