Welcome to the site! The older LS engines are still pretty impressive even after 20 years. Have any questions?

Well, the car I bought is mostly stock, headers mufflers stage 2 trans n shift kit 3.73's, trans has 1k mi on it, the motor and body are 183k seems like a good running motor no noises, leaks. I am planning a mild build for street/ strip so the motor will be out at some point, my question is though what are the first things to look for on a high mileage stock motor when it starts to go?

These engines have proven incredibly durable and many have gone 200,000 plus miles when properly maintained. There are occasional failures when a rod bearing goes out, an oil pump expires, or a rocker arms decides to puke out its needle bearings. Manual trans engines will bend push rods when over revved. You'll want to do some routine maintenance if things are in question -- flush the cooling system, swap out the thermostat, throw some new belts and hoses on it, clean the MAF and throttle body, replace the air filter and change the oil.
