Arctic White- 2000 Firebird Formula
New 2000 Formula
Hey All,
Just this last week found a nice Formula w/ low miles and bought it. I am new to the Firebird scene. I built a blown 03 Mustang a few years back and got bored and sold it.
I figured I'd give it another shot with a FB this time.
It is a virgin LS1, so with the Firebird Ls1 what is the best bang for the buck? I have about 3K to mod with before my wife puts her foot down so where do you think I would benifit the most?
As for my driving style. I like low end torque, I'd rather be quick than fast and could care less how it corners. I'll do that later down the road.
I just bought a transgo shift kit only because I'm going to do a fluid and filter service on it and figured I might as well do it will the pan is off.
Any ideas would be truly appreciated.

lt headers, stall converter if its an auto, lid or volant, ls6 intake, rear gears, and sub frame connectors would be a good start

I read the sticky in the headers section and thought about hitting the exhaust up first. I noticed that a lot of people piece together the headers, y pipe and cat back from different manufacturers. Is there a company that sell a decent system from of headers to exhaust tip? I'd rather buy from one and have good fit and clearance than piece together for a couple xtra ponies. Any idea? BTW I have a 4l60. I'd rather not pull the tranny to do a convertor swap until I rebuild it. What gives you more bang for the buck on the ls1, cai or a lid? Who sells the best sub frame connectors? Thanks

well the stock 4l60 becomes kind of a crap shoot once you start modding, they dont like too much more than stock power but then again some people's last forever.. Off the top of my head, i cant really think of any companies that make a "full" exhaust from headers to catback. If you buy quality stuff then you wont have fitment issues. BMR makes quality subframe connectors. A lid is basically a CAI for our cars( volant is prob the best). Stay away from SLP stuff, except for their lids. i agree with gullet though, lid, ls6 intake, LT's and rear end gears and a nice stall (3600 or so). Next would be a cam(if you do a stall) but unless you find killer deals, your money should be pretty well spent.

Well I ordered the Volant, I like the looks of them over the lids. As for the LS6 intake, should I just look for a take off or go with something like the FAST 92? I'm still trying to decide between JetHot hooker headers and the Kooks? Any ideas?

Just search the boards and ebay. make sure its a real ls6 intake too, check the part number. A FAST flows no better than the ls6 intake until you put new heads and a cam in, then its beneficial. Jethot and Kooks are both great. Im partial to kooks but its for no reason at all.

Thanks for the help and welcome.
I ordered the Volant, the Kooks LT's, OR Y Pipe, 3" Hooker Catbacks, some percy exhaust manifold gaskets and some stage 8 header bolts. I'll see if I can hunt down a LS1 intake. Is there anything that I should be looking for when searching. Is there only one GM part number for them no matter what vehicle they came from? Or is there a cross reference database somewhere? Thanks again for your help.

I finally took a picture of my Firebird. You can barely see it with the freaking snow but trust me, there is a Firebird there.
