Camaros and Corvettes in the UAE

Hi Everyone

For those of you not familiar with the Middle East we aren't all at war. I'm a Brit working in Dubai in United Arab Emirates. My stepson Richard works here too as a mechanic for Chevrolets and other US automobiles. To the uninitiated Dubai looks a bit like Las Vegas on a good day - including the desert.

Dubai has a big reimport business from Japan and many of these imports are previously exported US muscle cars especially Chevrolet, Pontiac, Dodge and other GM makes. Gas is cheap here (UAE is worlds 3rd largest supplier after Saudi and Iran) so big engines are in. Don't go on the roads here without life assurance though.

In the family we have a 2000 Camaro Z28, a 1996 Camaro 3.8 V6 and our project a 1994 Camaro Z28 SS with a rather 'sick' LT1 engine which we are bringing back to full health. To define 'sick' a bit more we removed a 14 year old spark plug from one of the rear cylinders - the gap was 75 thou. The dealer told us 'it just needed a service' but fortunately Richard knew better.

We are big fans of Overhaulin' (and we look at the cars as well as Courtney).

Pleasure to join all you guys and share some tech talk and experience. I'll try really hard to write in 'American' and avoid words like petrol, bonnet, boot, silencer and wing etc.
