My 98 ls1 seems to light to throw check engine lights a lot my old manager had a scanner but changed jobs was thinking about getting a programmer lmperforamce.com has a few by diablosport and hypertech not sure which one to get. I noticed some say 99-2000 so i'm guessing they won't work for my 98. To the main point of this will these also read the codes and programmer or just program and if not are there any that will????????

The Diablosport & Hypertech programmers basically give your car a generic tune (in that it's not specific to your car only; it's a tune designed to create more hp/tq for any fbody of the years it's designed for). These programmers can also do things like increase the firmness in shifts, change the temperature that your fans will come on, and correct the odometer/speedometer if you have larger aftermarket wheels. However, none of these tune programmers can scan, read, & clear trouble codes. If you are wanting something that can read check engine lights & clear them, you'll need a completely different type of scanner. A plus is that these OBDI & OBDII scanners can be found relatively cheap....

An areoforce scan gauge can delete codes and you can monitor pcm perameters and it has a built in shift light. They are great. You can't program anything with them though.

    I have the same question.
Change gears and tires so I need a tune. The hypertech says 1999-2002, will it work on a 1998 TA?
Is it worth getting one or should I have it done by a professional?
    Would like your inputs please??
