    PCM swap or not?

What are the benefits of swapping from a 98 pcm to a 99 and up? I'm new in the ls1 world and have some simple mods planned for after the holidays (243 heads, cam and exhaust) and im just trying to figure out if i should change the pcm before tuning. Thanks in advance.

I know that the '98 is a one year only and that it has its quirks. Not sure about swapping in a later style PCM and what all would have to be changed along with the swap. Our resident tuner, Steve Williams (a/k/a Tuned by Frost) can probably answer your questions and provide you with whatever you need though.

I believe you either have to repin the harness to match the 99 and up or get a 99 harness and there is something with the gauges as well if you get the harness I believe. There is a thread about it somewhere on here I'll see if I can find it. The benefits are real time tuning though. From what I have heard it is real worth it especially if you plan on doing some serious mods.

Seeing how I'm sorta in the same situation. Yes the 97-98's ECM's have their quirks. Most from what I've been told is it needs the MAF sensor to make most of the tuning issues where as the 99< doesn't seem to necessary have the same issues. 99<< have different hardware for the ECM then the 97-98's and the difference between 99-00 & 01-02 yrs is software.

In order to swap to the 99< ECM you'll need the wire harness as well as the dash cluster. Will suggested you can try to repin or splice in the harness for the 98 gauges but it is a risk. Painless Performance does make harness to meat your needs but comes with a cost. FBJ knows of another place that does make them too.
