MAF Question
If you turn the damn thing sideways, will it get better readings? 90' rotation, moving the little black box on the side underneath the MAF.

i've never heard of this...
what benefit are you trying to get and how is that supposed to do anything?
sounds kinda fishy...

my tranny slips at highway speeds, the screen is gone and the bad MAF reading is what is causing it (I think) so maybe if it was rotated the vortex or whatever might be reduced/eliminated and the MAF might get good readings again...
i've noticed though in HPTuners that bank 2 runs about 3% richer than bank 1, which makes me think I'm losing a cat on that side. car has 156k on the clock.

Can you put the screen back in? or buy a new housing with a screen in it and replace the existing one--Screened MAF is good for 500 HP anyway-no reason to take it out--always screws up an A4 trans--reads load values incorrectly and line pressures are not right

New MAF is in and the car not only shifts better but runs harder too. Guess I will change my plans to include a wet shot of nitrous because dry will ruin the screen that I now see is vital to my car's ability to manage itself.

removing the screen causes these kinds of problems on a relatively small percentage of cars that remove them. That's why I always recommend people leave the screen in, it's not worth the risk of the headache for the tiny bit of gain.
You being a little rich on one side versus the other has nothing to do with your cats because the fueling O2's are in front of the cats. You'll see a little difference from side to side. I would make sure there's no exhaust leaks prior to the front O2's on the leaner side and things like that but it sounds normal to me. If it gets pretty lopsided that could be a sign something isn't right like a plugged injector or fouled plug or something along those lines.

yeah, my theory of the cat was just that clogged cat = added restriction = possibly slightly richer operating conditions on that side due to increased backpressure
