Read, read, and then..... read more. Then go try the little things out on your own vehicle. RTT (real time tuning) is a good way to see the actual effects, in..... Real Time.
Start by reading these.

and, all these.

When your done, you might as well start reading them all again because you probably forgot some/most of it. HPTforum is a good place to learn, its easy to spot the guys who know their stuff.370 CI - Twin 6766 Turbo - Jakes stage 5 4L80E - MWC 9" - Holley Dominator
Build in progress...

you just have to do a lot of reading and a lot of question asking. Feel free to ask questions here and people will help you as much as they can. We don't really have a huge base of tuners here but we have enough that can certainly get you started and frost will usually chime in and answer questions.
Another option you always have is to pay frost to help you tune it via email....that way you end up with a good tune and get taught a little something along the way.

Mrr23 has a good web collective that will help get you going on some basics; maybe we can get him in here to post a link
You will find there is much help for those that are helping themselves. For example, specific questions will get help and relatively quickly. Broad questions that could take 50 pages to answer (how do I tune, what do I do to get started, what do you do with an auto trans, etc) will be left alone by most reading.
Best of luck.
