as far as handhelds go the hpp3 is the only handlheld option out there that I know of. I'm selling my old ls1edit package in the for sale section that'll work on your 98. That really depends on how in depth you want to get into tuning. LS1edit has a steep learning curve but is way more powerful than a handheld.

how step of a curve, im new to computer controled motors but ls1 edit will alow me to relabrate shift points and speedo seting and such rite?
Also im familiar with bikes so when ppl refer to tunes is this the same thing as mapping out a fuel timing curve on a motorcycle?

I would recommend doing some reading before you buy anything. I don't want to push anything on you. Hptuners and efilive both offer packages for the 98's and both are newer and better than ls1edit. Mines just for sale because A. I went to hptuners and don't use it anymore and B. it'd be a cheaper way for someone to get into tuning their car. I don't want anyone to buy it though without knowing anything about any of the different tuning suites out there. So just take some time and read as much as you can. I put some screen shots up in my post to give people an idea of what it looks like. I'm not familiar with bikes as far as tuning options but with an editor you basically have full control of the vehicle.

83 Z28 new project- 98 Formula WS7-sold:(
If you looking cheap and easy, I have a pp3 for sale if you desire for 150 bucks and it works for 97-98 ls1's. Orions package is much nicer if you want to spend the time. I wish it was for sale earlier, I would have bought it, its a great deal he is offering.

Vinci/Crane makes a handheld for the '98, no experience with it myself, just another option.

the 98 pcm is just different. I know the 99+ pcm's had 8 segment ID's and the 98's had a 1 segment ID. As far as why companies don't offer tuners for them I have no idea.
