Hand Held Programmers
Hi guys, i am in need of getting my 02 ss 6speed programmed for the mods i just did, free exhaust with no cats, air lid, air filter, 160 thermostat. I have no dyno places near me, dont want to have the downtime of sending my computer away, can i still get a noticible power increase with a handheld? I know its going to need done, dont want to spend the 300-400 dollars if it wont help much. Thanks for any input Gregg

It really wont help much, if you had a A4 i would say you can do a couple of things with it to make it a bit more worth your money. There are several articles on programmers some good and most bad, i have personal experience with them and it turned out to be disaster. If you just have to get one then get one that does more then just programming but also have the ability to Diagnostic Trouble Code Reading. I would still use Frost on here and send him your computer its only a couple of days of down time and your car will run much better and pull higher hp and tq numbers at a very low cost.

unless you need to worry about emissions then it wont help too much. or if you dont plan on modding anymore. if not it will be nice to have as a code reader. otherwise it wont help really for performance. as far as performance that little bit of difference that the programmer, on the article above, falls within the 3% dyno error.

Some good reading..You decide.
BTW...I gain 1/2 sec with the Diablosport Predator. Not bad for 370.00. All I have is a lid and a Jamms ram air kit. Running a 13.1 with A4. It does ok. Oh and I'm running a Flowmaster exhaust. With a different cat back the people here should say I should easily be high to mid 12's..........( insert sarcasm)

Thank you all for the information guys, looks like my best bet would be to send the computer away, a couple days wait wont be that bad. My car just rolled 94,000 miles, im hoping the power output stays, its still runs strong now, bought it with 93,000, i heard the ls1's will not get tired for a long time.
