    Frost Tune Impressions

I just received my PCM back from Frost and drove with it for the first time today.
PAJEFF02 wasn't kidding in several of his comments when he said it would run rough for a short period of time. It instantly fired right up but refused to idle until I drove maybe five miles at 70-80 mph. Idle came back just fine. (The initial start up reminded me of the old days when you cranked over your GM short block cam install for the first time and all hell broke loose) Once I had some highway miles on it I could see the throttle response was much quicker and I don't have to put a lot of foot in it to get good acceleration. Kicking it down to WOT gives me the impression there's more fuel getting through the injectors at a much quicker rate. Could be my imagination but I swear the exhaust tone is sharper coming out of my Magnaflow 4" Quad Tip. Transmission shifts (auto trans) are more solid / tighter. It easily chirps a little rubber from first to second at 3/4 throttle. It must be running richer because for the first time I have some exhaust soot on the inside of the exhaust tips. Previously I was running so lean that hardly any residue would ever be inside the tips. Oh well, not to worry, it's for off road driving only, right? Definitely eliminated the sluggish feeling I would get at partial throttle when it was reluctant to down shift unless you really stomped on it.
Money well spent and super quick service from Frost. Extremely pleased.
Just make sure you follow their directions about battery disconnect and the danger of over tightening the connections. Just snug is all you need.

Running rich is always better than running lean. Running lean will cause detonation and that is what destroys a motor.

Glad you're happy. I had my Procharger set-up tuned by Steve aka Frost in person on a DYNO and the car has been running flawlessly.

Another happy customer. Frost definitely does a great job on his tunes and we all benefit from his experience. I understand that it can take a while for everything to settle back in as the engine operates under different conditions and loads. As you pointed out, the changes in how the car drives (A4 here as well) were very noticeable.

I am just about to send my computer to frost after installing my D1SC, 1 7/8 long tubes, fuel pump upgrade and meth kit (for safety).
I am a bit of a nube and can't get hold of Steve, due to him being away, to ask him a probably obvious question. On his site it mentions asking what AFR I desire at WOT. Do I need to know this or is it something Steve knows based on mods and experience along with the degree of timing. Looking for a conservative tune to get me going and then will monitor the numbers and use his 90 day updates to change things if needed. What did you ask for?

I would appreciate any help with this.

Not sure a mail order tune is what you want with a Procharger set-up. I'd do a street and DYNO tune.

Frost is with my installer this week tuning cars so he's out of town.
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

Stock internals (for now), LS6 intake, 8rib D1SC with 4.5" pulley and twin 4.5" intercoolers, ati balancer, 1 7/8" kooks long tubes and catted Y, magna flow cutback, Walbro in tank pump, 60lb injectors, Alky control meth kit, will use 50-50 water meth, Boost sideband and fuel pressure gauges.

Cam, heads, trans and axle next year. Forged motor at some point.

Frost advertises a mail tune for this but I can't find anyone with one??

The previous post wasn't asking about your set-up. He was asking about the OP's lol. OP = Original Poster, which is who this thread is for.

My advice will stay the same. Get a DYNO tune. You don't want a mail order tune with your set-up.

I have the same set-up plus some. If you don't trust me, wait til Frost gets back into town.

FI is a lot more involved and you need to be with the car when tuning it in the even something doesn't go right.

Not sure if you asking me but with nothing to lose 2 degrees cooler than stock as recommended by Bob at Brute speed. If not then I will duck out gracefully

I was asking you. Bob is a good guy. Have worked with him plenty. Are you running the NGK TR 5's? Just asking because I was initially running the equivalent Autolite plugs and they gave me tons of issues and when I went to NGK's everything was fine.

I have gone for the ngk tr5s. Bob was great and made sure everything got to the ship on time. Do you think a frost tune will let the motor start so that I can see if everything is bolted up and aligned good before I take it to the dyno? The last thing I want to do is trailer it there and pay somebody to tell me to take it away as its not in good shape. What timing and afr's are you running? Mike

He can probably get the tune close to where it's drivable. My AFR is around 14.7 at idle and 11.0 at WOT.

Do you know what tune Frost used on your mail tune Redrokit8, as I will be sending him my pcm and when it comes back I will need to find a dyno over here that uses the same one, I think...
Stock block, LS6 intake, Walbro pump, 60lb injectors. 1 7/8" Kooks long tubes, catted Y, magnaflow cat back. D1SC (helical) 8 rib, ATI balancer. Twin 4.5" intercoolers. Black plenum. Alky control, SFCs

Loads to do and many dollars to spend.......
