Computer Tuning Software?
I have a 98 T/A M6 which I will be giving to my 16 year old son next year. The car is basically stock but it has run a best 13.2 @ 108.8 which is a little more power than I would like him to have. So I'm looking for a software which I can limit the RPM's to 3500 and top speed to 80 and later I will increase as I feel comfortable. Will all the software work to those limits? The car currently has been tuned to delete cats and an unattainable 220mph top speed. I had a local club member do this but I no longer have access to the factory tune. Will this be a problem? I'm looking for the most cost effective software.

why limit it..if he loves cars as much as you..he will respect it and know his limits...take him to the track..so he can let out his urge to speed. on the software ..i am positive hp tuners will do it..at 600ish dollars..or you can just get a mail order tune and ask them to do those for you for about 200

I don't know if the handheld tuners will do it. But HPTuners will.

IMHO, I think boys will be boys, and they will speed no matter what they get behind the wheel of. Hell I did, and I'm willing to bet everyone who has posted here so far has aswell. With the younger generation now they speed around town in 20+ sec cars too lol. Maybe get the guy some driving lessons could help. Or take him to a place where he can get some practice with the beast in a safe setting. By the time I was your sons age I had 4-5 field cars. Nothing road worthy but learned how to drive and not to panic. Panic is what gets people hurt nine times out of ten..IMHO
Ps, This guy maybe able to help:http://www.tunedbyfrost.com/Last edited by Smittro; 08-15-2009 at 02:03 AM.

like was said...both of the full editors will do it. efilive and hptuners. Smart man. I wouldn't want my kid having that much HP on tap either.

I wonder if you can use the torque management to slow him down a little.

if it were my son and my car I would probably just lower the speed limiter to the speed limit or just above. I might also be tempted to lower the rpm cutoff in 1st and 2nd gear.
