1998 tuning issue...please help
I know the 98's pcm's are completely different from all the other years. Is there a specific tuning device you have to use with the 98's? I have a h/c combo so tuning is a MUST and i have a good tuner guy but idk if he knows his stiff about the different pcm's for that year? any help appreciated- thanks

What makes the 98's different from the rest?

the PCM itself is design differently. also somewhat slower than 99-up PCMs.
you have two options if you want to do this yourself. a handheld tuner, or a full tuning suite.
the only handheld worth a darn for 98 PCMs is the one from vinci high performance. comes with 8 preset tunes with 3 for superchargers. here's a write up i did on the tuner

can buy it from here

if you want to wing it yourself, the HPTuners, or EFILIVE. here's visual guide i have been doing for HPTuners

it looks like the one from vinci is easier to use but it looks like it only has tuning specs for specific cams, like the ones you buy from them. are there a lot more things you can do to make more power with the HPTuner or EFILIVE? im also trying to decide which to buy and i am defenitely a novice at tuning/computers.

it works with any cam in those ranges. also, don't get hung up on the use only this tune for this cam. i used cam #3 on the wife's car for a cam that fit cam #1 profile. plus, you can money around with the preset tunes.
using a full tuning suite might get you more. it just depends.

with a heads/cam car I would definitely look at a full tuner. There's so many little tweaks that have to be made it'd be much better to have a full editor. JMO.

the vhp seems to be a good choice for the 98 pcm, on their site it stats that it could have setting for headers and intakes, I wonder if they do but mrr23's write up has nothing about it, if it does it will be my next purchase for sure. Does anyone know ??

there is no specific program for headers and intakes. what you do with the tuner is use the preset program that gets you the best results, then tweak it from there. for example, when i put heads on the wife's car with stock cam, i ended up with cam #3 tune with minor adjustments to get the best out of it.
