    what rear is it?

1984 camaro in the garage my little brother is going to try and sell. its a project car the motor runs and all but it needs a lot of tlc and i would personally just swap something else in there. but my question is... the rear on this car looks different then mine on my car and i was told by a local mechanic it was an aftermarket rear. what are some ways i can find out brand, gearing, etc etc. i havent gotten under there and gave it a good look yet i just wanted to know what to look for before i checked into it.

Step 1: Count the bolts on the rear cover- is it 10 or 12 or does it not have a rear cover? This will give you an idea of what rear it has. Look for the strange logo on the center. Look for Strange or Moser, etc. on the axle ends.

Step 2: Raise the back up in the air. Turn the rear tires and count how many times the rear tires turn in relationship to the number of times the driveshaft turns- that will roughly tell you the rear gear ratio.

Sorry haven't been home for a while. 10 bolt it is. I don't know what I was looking at last time but it looked different.

No doubt it's a 7.5" 10 bolt as they took the rearend used in the H-body (Vega and Monza) during the 70's and used it for the 3rd gens.
