very important rear end and ring and pinion question!!!
ok i have a 99 SS m6 with 3:42s in the rear end and its a completely stock rear end. i went to summit racing to pick up my 4:10s and paddle kit that is required for installation and the salesman told me that 98 99 and 2000 z28s and SS camaros you cant change the ring and pinion because of the ZEXEL limited slip diff..........does anyone know about this?? i think he is full of shit because i know there are alot of people that have swapped gears in there ss or z28s. he said he would sell me the stuff but he told me its not going to work. i bought it anyways cuz i just think he dont know what hes talking about. i would greatly appreciate any replies with info on this. its a completely stock 10 bolt rear end.

That guy is an idiot. Zexel is the name of the company that makes the Torsen differential. There is no reason in the world you can't swap the ring and pinion in a Torsen rear myself as well as many others here have done just that.

yeah, that guy at summit doesn't know what he is talking about. and you really don't need the paddle kit. i just ground some of mine down to clear the 4.10 gears.
back when i did my gear swap

Pewter Metallic (1of?)- 2001 Formula M6(1 of 225)
same here, on my 4.10 setup on a stock 10bolt, all i did was grind down the paddle to clear the ring and slide back into the diff.

Silver- 97 TA M6
I am taking my car into have the rear done I guess if i show him the picture of the paddle ground as seen in stealthram howto at the end and tell him thats what needs to be done if needed then it's all good?
I ordered motive 4.10's. I have a 97 ta m6 stock rear w/ ta gridle.
And i found a write up on our cars having 2 cut gears instead of 5 cut gears and that the pattern should be a slanted bias pattern instead of a symetrical pattern?

is that suppose to be standard knowledge

the paddle kit is different than the install kit basically it's just new lock shafts designed to work with the larger 4.10 and lower gear ratios. Some cars have to have them and some don't...
