    Question u-joint replace?

    99 z29 6sp. Do i need any kinda of special tool to replace them??

    A ball joint press is preferred. Sounds crazy to someone who hasn't used one like that, but they are usually sized right for u-joint removal/installation. You can get one on loan from some auto parts places, like Auto Zone. I can't remember if our u-joints have the hot wax (plastic) retainer for the bearing caps. Sometimes the ball-joint press can break that, sometimes it can't and you have to use a torch to melt the plastic. If you've never done a u-joint, I suggest you have someone help you who has. The new u-joint has a lot of needle bearings in the caps, and it is easy to dislodge one when putting it back together. The new u-joints are retained with c-clips, not the plastic.
