    trutrac or detroit locker

I have a 79 camaro with a blown LSX 427 making 1000HP, i am buying a Currie ford 9" direct bolt in rear diff., I know the safe answer is to purchase the detroit locker, but I am wanting the trutrac. It will be a streetable car, it will go down the track a few times, but more on the street than the strip. Does anyone have any input? I have been told with sticky tires, when it hooks up on a track the trutrac would not last but would be fine on the street? Has anyone actually used this trutrac on the strip ith any serious power and have it live? I would really hate to soend this money and enjoy it on the street going to car shows and have it destroyed on the track having a little fun. Any insight would be awesome. Shoot me an email at: sthomason@gowaninc.com if possible? Or just reply to thread and I will try to catch the reply, thanks!!!!

I would not put the Trutrac in a car with that much power.

    Have you considered the wavetrac?

I agree with Jon on the Trutrac. It won't hold up. I'm not even sure the Wavetrac will hold up under that much power.

I've seen some cars pushing in the mid-800's with them. Never really seen a "street car" with a 1000rwhp though...

I have a True Trac and really like how it works... but I completely agree with the above replies. With that much hp on tap, check if a Wave Trac will handle it, otherwise go with something else.

I've seen a few - advantage to living near Summit Racing. Everyone I've seen has a locker.

Yeah, I talked to engineers at Eaton this morning and they agreed, there is no way it would live with that much power, BUT the cool thing is Eaton said they will have a 35 spline Trutrac out near the end of the year that will handle that kind of power, the only thing they have is a 31 spline for the trutrac. Pretty cool info for anyone that wants to know that..... I am going forward with the project with a 35 spline Detroit Locker in this Currie Ford 9" direct bolt in for my Camaro.

I just sent a tech question to Wave Trac about the ability to handle the major H.P.
If they reply I will post the answer for anyone looking at their unit, that was a cool recommend on the Wave Trac, that looks like a cool product, thanks!!!!!

I am pretty sure I am running 33 spline Moser axles in my True Trac equipped 12 bolt.

I think 31 spline is probably the most accurate answer for the best available Trutrac, that is what I was after when I asked Eaton directly being they are the ones that make them. I hope they gave me good info. How much H.P. Are you running with your Trutrac?

I installed my TrueTrac about 2 years ago now. The first 2 years I was relatively stock power; 330rwhp/342rwtq.

This past summer I installed a Procharger and hit 500rwhp. I've put about 5K miles on that set-up. No issues so far.

Since the Procharger install no. Plan on hitting it up come spring time. Car dead hooks on the street though, even out of 1st gear.

Thanks Shaun! I'll be sure to check it out. There are a lot of great people here. It's become like a second home to me almost over the last 3.5 years. Always good for a few laughs too.

Detroit lockers are commonly used in offroad applications in ford 9" ers so you may want to look into those with that much power..
