    Question the trans mount saga

ok so i put on a prothane trans mount on two days ago. it make the car ride like shit esp. at 90 plus mph. So i am going to buy a stock rubber one for 90 f-ing dollars....the reason i put the prothane one on was that i was getting rear end trans slap in the tunnel.....its gone with the prothane mount but ride like shit,....my question for you guys is that do you thin a new stock rubber mount will still move like the old one causing me to still get tunnel slap? the old was had a few cracks and was worn so i am hoping the new will be ok. I am jsut afraid tht b/c its rubber it will give too much,....

Thats the same reason I got the oem trans mount, heard the prothane mounts caused vibration. When I got the new one it was alot stiffer than the old one, but then again the old one was totally seperated. But I do feel your pain on the 90 dollar!!!! wtf its rubber on two pieces of steel!! lol. Dam dealers

yeah i figured whatever, i cant deal with the vibration , so its worth it for me, if you look at the big picture 90 bucks isnt bad, its just that its freeking rubber!!!!! maybe i will just shove a box of condoms in there instead hahahahha

Might want to look into what caused the trans mount to fail in the first place.
I went through 2 OEM mounts before I found out the left motor mount was bad. When we pulled it out and seperated the clamshells the rubber just fell on the floor. I have a Prothane motor mount now and a ES Poly Trans mount.
Yes it does transmit more Vibration but IMO it's liveable for the peice of mnd of not having to worry about it again.

    Dont go to the dealer!

I had the same issue (dropping to third from sixth at 75 and stuffing it to beat an r6 on the highway blows trans mounts heh heh heh) and spent two months hunting for the trans mount, bought the prothane ones, went through the idiocy of being told by my mech that it wouldnt work, must find stock. Was outraged at how much the dealer wanted. Went to local parts stores, and kept being told it was a special order item, and then getting the wrong one. Three or four times I went through this. Then I went to the last place I wanted to try, NAPA, before going to the dealer. I talked to the counter guy and he said it wasnt listed (which we found odd considering how many m6 cars were made just in 99 let alone throughout the run of camaros/ta's) so he looked under 96 and low and behold there it was on the shelf. Problem solved for 11.00 dollars! And its holding up strong in the car right now.

haha yes its installed correctly.....motor mounts are fine. I replaced the stock one b/c the ass end of the trans was slapping the tunnel sometimes on hard accel. but i took off the old trans mount and it really wasnt in too bad of shape. I dont get tehe slapping anymore with the prothane mount, but i have tons of road noise and vibration. this due to the fact that the trans crossmember bolts directly to the floor pan. i dont lke the vib, so i am putting in a new stock trans mount,....if i still get slapping them i may run some thick rubber tubing around the trans, I guess its got enough torque on it to stretch the rubber mount, but i need the cushining i get from rubber. I am not sure how you dont notice more vibration after adding the prothane mount,....do you have a V8? any other ideas?

Install the poly motor mounts to and it will get rid of your tranny mount problem. The stock T-mounts sucks and will keep on breaking.

Ive always thought about using a small rubber bushing with the Poly mount on my car. Something about the size of the preload plate that comes with it, but use this in its place. I think doing this would really quiet things down and it would still feel tight. Ive never understood why GM didnt just mount the transmission directly to the crossmember, and mount bushing on the far sides where the member attaches to the frame. This is how many german cars are desinged, works a lot better.

I put the prothane motor and tranny mounts on last year. I have really bad vibration all the time. Even in park or neutral. I thought it may be the after market stall. The tranny guy just called and said he thought it was the mounts. So here I am looking to see if anyone else has or had this problem.
Mine feels like I'm running over the wake up strips on the highway.
    Back to the rubber ones??

so a tranny mount from a 96 camaro ($11 bucks?!) will work on a 2000 camaro? I just installed the poly one from summit and i don't like it at all. Like someone else said, after about 85 90mph it shakes bad, and if I punch it at 100 i thought the car was going to fall apart..

The design is slightly different but the bolt holes are the same and they are the same size.

ES poly mount here. It's a lil noisier at 1st but softens over time. Don't even notice anymore. Anyone who pays $90 for a tranny mount is

I agree, the Summit Prothane is a piece of sh-t.
Went back to the OEM mount and the vibration is gone.
