    Thoughts: aftermarket clutch and flywheel

does anyone have suggestions on an aftermarket clutch and flywheel. I have heard many different things like to stay away from centerforce and not get too light of a flywheel to keep it around 10lbs. I am leaning towards a spec 3+. Does anyone have any thoughts or first-hand exp with SPEC.

I bought a spec stage 1 for my last car and it was the best clutch I've ever used. It had quite a bit of chatter at first but slowly went away. I called tech support and they said a stage 2 or 3 would be more streetable so I think you have the right idea. The gripping power over stock was unbelievable! I will buy a 3 this time around for sure. If I were you I would go with a billet steel fly wheel.I believe SLP makes one but I'm not sure.

Spec is a love it or hate it thing. You will find people that swear by them and you will find people that will tell you thay are garbage. I've had two of them and I hated them both. I personally will never have another one but like I said I know people that love them. Do some research and make sure the clutch you chose will live through what you plan on doing and your driving style.

i had it for my last clutch and it was great!!! felt close to stock pressure... a little grabby at first but you get used to it really fast... i currently have a ls7 clutch (couldn't resist the deal i got for it) and i definitly like the stage 3+ better...

oh... and if you're getting a new clutch make sure you get a new flywheel... don't forget the slave as well... might as well replace that while your trans is dropped...

Are you saying that because thats the general concensus, or do you have experience with them both and you've found the 01+ to be that much better?? Just curious, because I just ordered myself a new slave for my '98, and I got the new/improved 01+ version.

When I was looking for a new clutch for mine I pretty much learned that no matter which one you pick someone will have hated it for whatever reason. One of the things I looked for was what did people I know use with success, and how much people hated a particular clutch. In the end I put a RAM clutch in mine, grabs well, very streetable, but it does have a bit of chatter every now and then, but I know another car that has pulled 1.5 60s with the clutch setup so I am not worried about it handling what I will be throwing at it... yet

I have a spec 2 and its last 50k miles. They do chatter for a bit and when cold but get better. I have their aluminum flywheel and when the clutch went, I just had the flywheel resurfaced and balanced.

    Thumbs up Clutch preference...

I never had problems with the stock factory clutch. My outlook is, if it worked good from the factory, what's wrong with replacing with factory? I had 152K miles on my '98 and right up until the wreck, it was working like new!

^^^ id have to agree the stock clutch can handle some abuse and if your not really modding up the car then go with OEM. Ive tried Spec, Maddog(not too many have heard of them and im not sure there still around), Mcleod and Ram. Maddog was the best out of all of them, even though i cant find them on ebay anymore, lol. Either way if you have just the regular bolt ons meaning headers and so youll probably be around 335-350 rwhp tops and a bit less if not the same rwtq. So a stock clutch shouldnt have any issues handling that, just depends on your driving behavior either way GL im gonna need a clutch soon as well.
