T56 problems going into 5th
Hello, i have a 2001 ws6 with a cam, moser rearend etc.. Has only 25xxx miles on it and a new clutch a centerforce dual friction and it will not go into fifth with out jaming into gear. Then my 98 ws6 goes into 5th gear but it grinds, so it jus a problem with all of them but the 01 hard to get in 5th. Any ideas??? much apprectiated

Sounds like your synchros for that gear are shot. Grinding is indicative of bad synchronizer keys.

Synchros would be my guess as well. If the car is stopped, and you shift into fifth, does it still grind?

Even with the car stopped, the flywheel would still be spinning, just not as fast. I'm guessing it would still grind. Unless you mean with the car off and not running.

Yes, if it is the synchros, those are internal to the transmission. Did this just start happening when you installed the new clutch?
Typically 5th gear synchros don't get damaged because you aren't power shifting into 5th gear ever, or at least you shouldn't be power shifting into an OD gear.

If you can't shift into 5th while not moving, that would indicate a problem more in the shift fork/gear area. If you can shift into 5th just fine, that would indicate the synchros. Don't disengage the clutch while shifting. The flywheel will be spinning, but with the clutch engaged, the input shaft will not. Just don't disengage the clutch, or the car will probably jump and stall, obviously.
