rearend question
What were the options of rearend ratios on the '02 f-bods? I thought they were 2.73s for z28s and a 3something for the ss. At the dealership were I work I had my vin run and it brought every option on my car and it had a 3.42

That's correct on the 02 SS. I had a bearing cap stud kit and TA Perfomance rear axle girdle installed and when my mechanic pulled out the gears he showed me the engraved numbers using some formula it added to a 3.42 gear ratio, my dumbass thought I had 3.73s

The way you tell what ratio rearend you have is by counting the # of teeth on the ring gear and dividing it by the # of teeth on the pinion. For example, some diesel trucks have 37 teeth on the ring gear and 9 on the pinion. That translates into a 4.11 ratio rear end.
As for my SS, I do not race it, although I had a chance to spank a little Dodge Neon SRT-4 just a few minutes ago. It is more of a family car at the moment. I'm in the Navy so I don't need 2 cars. I just ride my CBR600RR to work when I'm in port. My ship is on deployment right now. I'm home on emergency leave and have to go back out in about a week for an additional 4 months. I plan on buying my wife a car when I get back and the I will start to work on my car to make it hella fast.Last edited by sills1; 03-02-2006 at 11:55 AM.
