    rear end gears

my 01 z-car came stock with 3.42 gears in the rear... is that good or should i change them..lookin for better fuel mileage.. or faster pickup, anyone have any suggestions as to which gears would be better or some pros and cons of a different ratio thanks

Leave them stock and save for a 12 bolt or 9" with 4.10's. I'm guessing your M6.

You can't have both.... Numerically higher ratio will give you better get up and go but will kill your mileage. 3.42 is a good medium....if you care about MPG's.

3.73 will increase your RPM a little, not that much gain over your 3.42, and decrease your gas mileage some. If you want to change gears and make a significant change go with 4.10 (even less MPG). My advice is keep the 3.42 and don't worry about the import guys.

If your that worried about fuel mileage get some juice and then you only kill your MPG's when you want to and you won't fear the imports any more.

Ok... first is it an a4 or m6?? second like a few others said... you won't get the best of both worlds... just not gonna happen... If you want gas mileage, stick with what you got. If you want the take off... and you have an a4 go with 3.73's if you have an m6 and want take off, go with 4.11's or 4.10's....
