    putting in new rear end fluid???

    I want to drain my old fluid and put new fluid in. I've got the car up now and i only see a drain plug on the side but no place to put new fluid in. what do i do??

    The drain plug on the side is for fill. You can remove the fluid out of there but it's best to remove the dif cover. Just unbolt all of the bolts to loose, put a drain pan underneath and crack it from the bottom. Should all drain out in seconds.

    Then you can give everything a quick lookover and remove metal shavings from the dif cover which will be stuck to the magnet. Not sure of the best approach, but I took all of the gasket off and resealed mine with RTV red high heat stuff. Put it on the cover and let it set for thirty min or so before installing/bolting back up. Then just add your fluid back in through the side.

    Same here just used red rtv and no gasket. no leaks in a year, also its full when it starts to come out of the fill hole

    That would have been a great time to replace it with a drain-plug-featured cover. But at least you won't be changing gear oil as often as engine oil.

    in school my teacher had us clean the gears and everything with brake clean too, got rid of all the old junk inside the rear.
