Angry need help with 1999 T/A Rear fix

OK, I just bought a 1999 T/A with 125K miles on it. It has a rear noise and now the rear is leaking from the front and the back, more from the front. Anyone have a stock rear they pulled in favor of an upgrade? What's the easiest way to fix this. Replace the whole rear?

Any help would be great. Did'nt even get to drive the car since we got it home. People suck!

It sounds as though your pinion seal is leaking, along with the cover seal. The cover seal is easy enough to replace, as you simply drain the housing, remove the cover and old seal, replace the seal, reinstall the cover, and refill the housing. The pinion seal is a little more work, as you'll need to remove the driveshaft and the hardware from the pinion nut to access it. Not real difficult though.

However, as you state, you are also hearing noise, which could be a number of issues. You could just replace the seals, but at the very least, I'd recommend a rebuild. Depending on the problem, your seals may wear extremely quickly anyway.

Ideally, an upgrade to a 9", 12 bolt, or D60 would be best. The stock rears are notoriously weak, and don't withstand much abuse. I would only recommend rebuilding the stocker if there is no way you can afford an upgrade, and need the car on the road. Otherwise, save the $ you'd spend on the rebuild, and pick out a replacement.

it could just be low. as long as the diff has not been ran very long it might still be ok long enough for the op to save money and get another one. but the seals need to be changed. the worst is it will still go out.
