hey everyone, my rearend just went out on my 99 ss. Its been getting hot and today it made a very load thump and clinging sound. Then wouldnt pull. I have a spare parts car that has a rearend in it. S i guess my ? is do i have to change the complete rearend? Or can I just change gears or something? How do i tell what needs to be done? As you can tell i dont know much about cars, and dont want to change everything if i dont have to. any info will be helpfull.Thanks.

IMO, the Easiest way to do it is swap out a your entire axle with the one from the parts car...... Unless you know how to properly setup an axle.

If your lazy, or not mechanically inclined (like me), I had a new axle swapped in my car for $300.... bought the axle for $75 complete w/o brakes. $375 and back on the road for me.

like he said.....unless you know how to set up the rear it's much easier just to swap them out. Swapping the rear out really isn't as big of a job as you think.

Buy something that wont break if possible. 12 bolt, 9" etc. 10 bolt will fail again.

If your looking for a good deal, there are some sponsors here that will more then liely beat all others prices.
