Can't really help with this one, my advice would be to have it towed somewhere and get an opinion. Most people here would tell you to not waste any significant $$$ on the OE differential, and just bite the bullet and spend ~2,000 on a stronger differential. At least GM made a strong engine that ruins our weak 10 bolt, rather then put a smaller, 5.3L or worse, the 4.8, where the 10 bolt would probably have had no durability issues.

Cheapest thing to do I find a used stock rear. Try looking at the classifieds here and ls1tech. Most ask very little for them. Maybe a couple hundred. Better than spending 1000+ to replace parts

better to just buy a 12 bolt and not have to worry about the stock piece of junk rear blowing up again...

yep. the stocker just blew once no need to piss away extra money tohave it happen again. and unless you have major plans for the car the 12 bolt will be plenty. if you do have high power plans a 9'' will be required.

I wouldn't think that the rear would just fall apart. This sounds more like drive shaft.

I believe they bolt in and work except there are a few differences. I think the brakes, parking brake, and ABS are a little different. I can't remember the exact details though.
