Moser 9" questions?
I am looking at getting a Moser 9" from epp and was wondering what some of the terminology means?
What does the spline refer to, and what is better or worse more or less?
What is 3 channel, 4 channel and new reluctor rings? Can 3 channel not have abs or tcs?
How long should my wheel stubs be? Is there anything wrong with stock?
Gear ratio for me I think im going 3.89.
Is the alum case just for weight. Is it weaker or anything?
What is a backbrace?
Anti roll bar brackets??
True trac, Locker, Wavetrac?
Why would I want the wheelbase narrower? Tires size maybe?
Thanks in advance guys.

Spline is the numebr of "teeth" an axles has going around the part of the axles that goes into the differential. The higher the number the more teeth it has. Since there are more teeth there is more contact area betwwen the differential and the axles, so it is stronger.
I have 35-spline axles/differential
3 Channel = ABS
4 Channel = ABS and TCS
I don't have either on mine.
Nothing wrong with stock if you have stock power. If you want more power it is a good idea to get stronger (ARP) studs.
I have the long 1/2" ARP Studs.
Are you A4 or M6? Since I have a M6, I have the 4.11s. It's your choice, but the car is rediculous in acceleration with those gears.
Yeah, mostly for weight reduction, not sure about strength. I have the iron case, and believe me, it took two people to lift it. I think it is easily 300lbs heavier than a stock rear end.
It is a bar that is welded accross the back to make the rear more rigid. Probably not needed for street cars, but if you change your mind down the road, you can get it welded in later.
The brackets the Sway Bar bolts to. You need them.
True Trac = Limited Slip
Locker (what I have) = Locker...has to disengage the locks when going around a corner...the "CLICK CLICK BANG BANG" becomes normal after awhile...pedestrians may look at you kinda funny...if only they knew
WaveTrac = Never heard of it...Spool maybe?
Narrowed wheelbase is for a tubbed rear running large tires..or if you want super dished rims.
Hope this helped...if anything is wrong, please feel free to correct me

I have an M6. What are the pros and cons of reving up faster with 4.11s or 3.89s?
The Moser is about 300lbs heavier!? wow, I wonder why it is so much stronger.
It getting the locker worths all the extra noise??

Basically anytime you go with a higher numerical value gear ratio you gain acceleration, but lose top speed. I have 4.11s in mine and have had no problem with it. In fact it is the perfect gear ratio for my car in the 1/8 with stock height tires.
There are some other advantages to having gear like 4.11s compared to 3.xx in that the rest of your drivetrain (clutch, tranny, driveshaft, etc) will not be working as hard, and will be able to handle the same amount of power better.
I would not say it is 300 lbs heavier, but it is heavy assembled (the center chunk is 90-95 lbs in its shipping tub).

I got 4.30 gears in My 9" and wouldn't have it any other way. Had 3.90's in my 10 bolt and was highly disappointed in them.
For me, I went all out 1st time and got the 35 splined axles and Detroit locker (no clutches to burn up) Locker is truly awesome and after the initial break in of 50 miles, it quiets down and I don't even notice it at all anymore as a daily driver in the summer.
Bad part about my set up is the parasitic loss through the drive train. You lose quite a bit of #'s at the dyno. I dynoed at about 408 RWHP through my 9" while others with the same set up as me with their stock 10 bolt are in the 440-445 hp range. BUT I don't have to worry when it comes to going to the track. Thats about right, They say you lose an extra 10% of your HP through a 9"Last edited by Jays00ss; 06-02-2009 at 08:05 AM.

Yes and no. It eats about 10% of your horsepower (Its bigger, heavier, larger bearings, gears and axles) at the dyno, more with steeper gearing. Dynos like less gearing as well.
Horse power is still there but the Dyno #'s are lower. The true #'s count out at the Drag Strip anyway.Last edited by Jays00ss; 06-02-2009 at 08:26 AM.

I don't see why not. You might want to make sure that it comes with two sets of holes for the rear to bolt to. This is because the 9" bracket is about half an inch farther to the driver's side than the stockers and 12-bolts. My Spohn Torque Arm had two bolts and I bolted it to the wrong set of holes and the angle was visibly off, so I had to unbolt everything and do it again.
