auto for drag. Consistent launching and fastest shifting. (modded of course)
Manual for everything else. You can hold your gears and control the shifts better and not to mention manuals are more fun on the street.

its all direct. not so many clutch packs and a torque converter to deal with. just gears and your main clutch. they also stay alot cooler

weigh much less, however the statement about manuals being more fun on the street should be more directed at cars with standard power, my auto is alot of fun on the street

Yup Hot Black summed it up nicely. Autos more consistent at the drag strip, manuals more fun I think everywhere else. However, I do like getting sideways when I hit 2nd gear at the drag strip!

manual for road course, auto (tuned shiftpoints and/or stalled) for the drag strip.

I like the auto with manual override as a compromise.
where you can digitally shift up or down, but it's not
quite like manual since you don't have control of the gears.
I have that A5 with manual switch on my daily RSX. close enough.

My car would probably be 4 tenths faster with a build auto.

But I can't give up my M6. 20MPG on the highway (402ci) and high 11's at altitude. Works for me.

so i guess you sacrifice a little faster drag time for better MPG and a little less weight basically..?
