I Think My Axles are Going ?

I`m not shure if this is a normal sound but , with my car on level ground I was messing around one day and decided to give my rear wheels a shake with my hands & I can hear a clunk noise and can feel alittle play when moving the wheels in & out ?

Both sides do it but more so with the right side , could it be an axle going ?
I do notice some noise on the highway too & it`s not the aircraft turbine sound I`m allready hearing . Car is an Auto and also cluncks a little in the rear when it shifts , if thats any help ??

    Thanks .

The in/out play you feel in the axles is probably normal. All c-clip style semi floating axles will have some play, its a matter of how much play there is that determines if there is a problem. I haven't seen an axle endplay spec for a GM 7.5" 10 bolt, but for reference, the Dana 60 I was working on today had a spec of .030" endplay. So if you attach a dial indicator and your endplay is way high, .080" for example, you can bet something is probably wrong.

DAM 10 Bolts ! Well the car only has to last me till the end of the month then
it`s going into storage , so maybe I`ll save up for that S60 rear over the winter .
in the mean time I`ll try and get her checked out .

    Thanks again .
