How much to rebuild a stock junkyard 10-bolt?
I need to replace my rear end. I plan on getting a junkyard rear end and having it rebuilt if needed.
What parts do i need to order and about how many hours am I looking at for a professional to do it?
I may have to replace all or some of the supports (panhard, control arms, etc.) due to them being bent.
Stock parts are fine as this is my DD and i don't plan on adding much HP.
I'd really like to keep it under $1000 but i doubt that'll happen.

You can find used ones in working order all the time ranging anywhere from $150-$400.
I wouldn't buy a 10-bolt that needs rebuilt. That's like throwing money down the toilet.

+1 on finding a good used one for under $500. You could easily spend over 1k for a rebuild and that's just not money well spent. You're almost halfway to a 12 bolt at that point.

Along with a used rear, I plan on buying used stock panhard, swaybar, and aftermarket adjustable control arms.
What else could possibly be bent that i should buy?

The previous owner was in an accident. She spun out on an icy bridge and side-swiped the railing.
I had the frame checked, the guy said the frame was straight but the rear end was definitely skewed or pushed to one side some.
Here's the alignment info. The thrust angle is definitely off and one side is definitely bent some..

Cutlass or someone else, can you explain what the picture is showing exactly? I've never seen this before and would like to add to my knowledge base

If that is true take the time and look around. I found a good 10 bolt for 200 when I broke mine. I would see if local junkyard has any wrecked f-bodies in them. Do you have a local f-body or car forum. You might check there also for parts sale. You might want to ask in the regional section you are in below. Again this since you state you want to keep it close to stock. I would just try find a wrecked fbody to remove and replace parts.. You could also use so 93-97 10 bolts. You will just have to swap parts over to keep the ABS.
If you ever plan to mod like others have said save the money.Last edited by Z28Thunder; 01-17-2011 at 06:53 PM.

I've yet to find any local car or f-body forums. I've posted in my regional section already. Waiting for replies.

Another thing you might try. Do you have a drag strip close to where you live? You could go in get to know some racers and ask if they know of any. Another place to check is auto swap meets. Wrong time of the year but car shows will have some parts swaps in them and people who might lead you to a used one.

I would not pay over 350 for a used 10 bolt.
