How do you tell if a transmission mount is bad?

I've finally had an opportunity to get the car up on jack stands, but I'm not able to tell if the transmission mount is broken. When they break, where do they usually break at? Also, I noticed the rubber on the torque arm mount is in two pieces. Thats normal correct?

Also, if I do take the cross memeber out, the only thing I need to support is the transmission, right?

Good to see you fixed it.
