Good manual for setting up a rearend?

Anyone know of good reading material on setting up a rearend? I have to replace the carrier in mine and i was wondering about getting a donor carrier, putting the ring gear that is on my car currently on the donor carrier and putting that in my car, using the exact same shims as the original carrier had, if that would be a 'do-able' thing or not, or if i would have to re-setup the rearend. Regardless, i would also like to pick up a book on rearends for reference, any good ones out there?
