which gears to choose

i have a 2000 camaro z28 now. my rear-end gears are 2.73, i'm looking for more in the lower rpm range. this is a daily driver though so not to low. what all would i need to change the gears, would i need to change the 2 bolt carrier to a 3 bolt? i was thinking maybe 3.23 or 3.42. help please.

I do belive you need to go to a 3 series carrier but im not 100% on that.... 3.23 or 3.42 are what I would say would be best for you (as you suggested) I take it you have an automatic transmission. If it were me I would go with 3.42's, in an automatic you can think of 3.42's being a nice all round gear just like in a manual 3.73's are a nice all round gear.

To find out about your carrier I would suggest calling DTS (drive train specialists) just do a google search for dts, they are very knowledgable and have pretty good prices.

also may I suggest using AAM (american axle manufacturer) for the brand of gear. THey are who makes the stock gears for GM. I say this because after going through a nightmare with gears these were the ones that are absolutely 100% quiet.
