Gears

I have a 2002 WS6 that is bone stock. I has a six speed and I am considering doing some performance upgrades. One thing I am considering is changing the gears to 4:10, but I'm not sure if I want to take that big of a step. I'm curious to hear from anyone that has made the switch on how it worked out in the end.

I installed 4.10s in my stock 10 bolt when I had it. I have them now in my 9". They are a great ratio when used with the 6 speed. If you can get them cheap, and can install them properly yourself, I'd say do it. If you are going to have a shop do it, I'd consider waiting and upgrading the entire rear diff.. The stock 10 bolts are notoriously weak, and adding power doesn't help. Some may say not to worry, but having had mine blow apart more than once sold me on upgrading. I wasted my money on trying to build the 10 bolt to handle the power, and in the end I snapped the teeth off two sets of gears.

Hell, after running around with 3.73's in my A4 car, I'd almost go with 4.10's in it given the opportunity to do it all over again.

I am really thinking about doing 4.10 in my A4 car when i get my new rear.

I've been runnin 4.10's in my stock 10 bolt for almost 2yrs & I think It's perfect ratio! only 2100 rpms @ 70mph..................but I def. wouldn't put a sticky tire on it! LOL!!
