    Clutch release noise?

I have a 99' ws6/m6, 76k miles. It's been making a noise lately but I cant quite figure out what it is so i need some help! When releasing the clutch and engaging into 1st gear it makes this flat whining noise that goes away after accelerating normally, lasting about 1-2 seconds... Almost like a scraping sound id like to say. What do you guys think it is.. Clutch going out? ...a bearing??

    Thanks

Could be the clutch or maybe the throwout bearing. Does it only do it in first gear? Does the clutch pedal release at a different spot than normal? I take it this is the original clutch as well?

    Thanks for your response.

Yes, I noticed it on 2nd gear as well today when coming close to a stop but then accelerating again, probably coming down to 5-8mph and it makes that noise. The clutch is original and releases normally. Its weird though because sometimes I can hear something spinning at high speeds as well.. like a light scraping sound?? What can it be? kinda freaking me out

When I am at very low rpm (slightly below to slightly above idle), I can hear a little grinding sound. It goes away during normal acceleration, though. I'm not sure what part of the car it is, though I would assume it's probably not the transmission (at least, not a specific gear), because it happens in every gear (well, I notice it most in 1st and 2nd, since those are the gears that I drive at such low rpms).

I took it to a performance shop and the technician and the owner of the shop drove it and said it was a typical sound on "these cars." Nothing to be worried about. I took his word for it Could this be the same thing?

Right on, The noise at higher speeds turned out to be a bearing on the a/c pulley lol. So I'll be replacing that tomorrow. But as for the light scraping/grinding sound it makes at very low rpm, it sounds like what you've explained. Its not loud or much of a problem but I did notice it and wanted to make sure it wasn't anything broken! Glad its normal i guess lol
