The clunk, that I have feared.
So after the tranny mount blew out ive been kinda disapointed because I knew at 150xxx stuff is going to break. Now ive got that awful clunk of the rear end. Regardless im going to have to throw some big bucks at this.
Im trying to balance this between cheap/cost effective. I really dont want to throw money into a 10 bolt when I know if I upgrade anymore it will break. I can get a new moser 12 bolt for 2400 with a new driveshaft. I think I should just bite the bullet and get this before it blows completely out and costs me a tow truck bill.
Thoughts and opinions wanted....

Clunk is around a corner correct???
Change the fluid and report back. Make sure to use 2 quarts of gear oil and GM's limited slip additive.

Changed fluid when I did my tranny mount. Used an additive as well. Its around corners and when I tap the gas when deaccelerating. I let my dad take her for a spin today(ase mastertech) and he says its backlash... You can put the wheels up in the air in park and spin them freely, and hear the clunk and feel the play...
Ive got a few friends in town that have 11 second 10 bolts(I can post vids ) Anyway they are running 4.10s but since mine is only a dd at the moment I thought I would put some 3.73s in it.. but I know its going to fail again...
Bite the bullet now? or limp the 10 bolt with some new gears??

I say bite the bullet. You can bite a smaller bullet though and go with a 9". A seller on ebay has the housing and axle package for our cars for only 8 or 900 I think and thats with a torque arm I believe. That and a 31 spline chunk and you have a rear end for about $1500.

The 12 bolt comes with a extra crap, abs, etc. Plus I wont be putting down any real numbers anytime soon.I drove about 20 miles from home and it did fine. It then set out in the parking lot for about 1/2 hour(in 100 degree weather) and the noise was horrible on the way back.
Time for a trip to the bank... I wonder if I can add it to my car payment...

I say put the cheap fix on now esp if yu havent modded yet and plan to...put the cheap fix on sell it and buy one with less miles and already started with the mods prices are good now lots of guys on here selling modded cars cheap becouse of wifes or gas.. This might be cheaper for you in the long run...150000 is a lot of miles to start modding at. Thats just my opinion

BTW Ill doubt ill get rid of it. Im not neccesarily modding this car as I am putting it back better than stock. Ill probably get it paid off and get a beater for gas. I think between my dad my uncle and I we have right at 15k invested in our WWII Jeep.

Thats not the m9 im talking about. I was going to get the new one that is built like a brick shit house. Anyway that is the same site I was going to get the 12 bolt..
About the same price for all the goodies.
So now its 12 bolt or 9 inch....

A Moser M9 isn't the same as a Moser 9". The M9 is more of a drag car rear end (http://www.moserengineering.com/Imag...es/bare_03.jpg). You can get a fully built Moser 9" (ABS, truetrac, your choice of gears, LCA relocators) for around $2600 shipped from EPP.

UPDATE:
Ive tried everything to get this bastard to break..
Ive noticed in 3rd gear that it will not do the clunk. If I keep it in 3rd then it never does anything wrong.. I shut the car off in when crusing up to a parking spot today(out of curiosity) and it did the CLUNK... so Im thinking it could be a tranny issue.. WTF
Maybe 3rd/4th is going out??

i thought mine was doing the clunk everyone talks about. had it checked out and it is just u-joint. getting that fixed tomorrow. talked to a guy who races alot at knoxville with a 01 SS. he is over 600rwhp and says he still runs a 10-bolt. i do know that he thrashes on that car all the time so i had to look to see if he was lying or not. climbed under it and its a 10-bolt. he swears he has never broke one and says he can build one for around $500 that is bullet proof. he has had over 10 of these cars and an 05 zo6. everyone says he knows his shit. im thinking i might talk to him a little more to maybe save some mod money for the motor

Ive noticed that with my 3.23s(gu5.. I think) the rpms do not match other gu5 cars. At 70mph my rpms are way higher than what the gear calucator says.. its right at 2300 rpm. when it should be at 2000 rpm... Im thinking the bands are slipping in 3rd 4th... ive had others agree...
