budget LSD for stock 10 bolt?
Hey guys,
my WS6 is starting to have some issues with the LSD after it gets hot its wanting to start sliping, makes all kinds of noise, jumps etc. when i turn. I've already put $800 into the damn thing getting it fully rebuilt with new ring and pinion.
So i'm going to be chaning my oil and adding more limited slip additive this weekend per the mechanic that rebuilt it. But i have a feeling my LSD is reaching the end of its usefull life.
My delima is i'm pretty broke right now and this is my DD. I am wanting to put a 9" in, so i dont want to spend too much money now but i definitely dont have the $$ for a new rear-end.
So does anyone have any suggestions on a decently priced differential to put in my baby untill i can upgrade to a biger rear?
Or would i be better suited going grave yard jumping and try and find one at a local junk yard with lower miles on it.
Thanks!

For a budget, go the junker route, but you never know what you are getting till you use it. I take it that you are hard on the car from the way you state that it starts it when it gets hot.
Also some chatter going around corners is normal, I get it in my 02 especially at low speeds and sharp turns.

Haha i'm hard one everything i own. But i wish it was just chatter, the last time it happened it was actually shaking my rear end. Almost like my tires were rubbing the wheel well on the drivers side.
But i'm going to change the oils this weekend and add some more Limited slip agent, go from there. If it still does it then i'll have to try and find a lower mileage rear end to steal from.

Well if I remember things right, you would have a eaton type LSD that uses a clutch pack, well more of a cone, that is neither rebuildable at decient cost nor ment to take repeated abuse and burn outs. Burn outs are very hard on a read end and drive train.
So yea if you can find a unit out of low milage car that doesn't look to be abused then yea you should be fine. Till you blow it up again. Just remeber all that dirt and peices is floating around in your rear and is not megnentic.

Well i've never really done a "burn out" it rains enough around here that my rear end slides around a lot on accedent, and i accelerate pretty hard a lot of the time. But ive never done donouts or smoked the tires, or anything like that on dry pavement. Though I have made the tires squeel a couple times ..
By heating up the rear end i was refuring to going down I-5 to seattle at 65+ MPH for 20 miles. Then getting off the freeway. It gets warmer than if i just drive to work my 4 1/2 miles.
i think i just drive alittle too aggresive for the tiny rear end. I thought my dealers book said that the Limited slip in the 98 was an Auburn. But i'm not really sure because that section also lists the motor as an LT1, so there is some obvious discrepencies. But yeah as you said it did say that it is non-serviceable
